Stay Home Series - DIY Air Dry Trinket Dish

Stay Home Series - DIY Air Dry Trinket Dish

What better way to come together with your child than to create something fun together with your hands! This little DIY craft is perfect to do with your kids.

Many of us are social distancing by staying at home, and with that comes the task of keeping little ones entertained and engaged. Our #StayHome series features homeschooling moms from all over the world who are sharing little crafts and fun tutorials just like this one.

Enjoy!

Materials needed:

  • White air dry clay

  • Cutting board or any flat surface

  • Rolling pin

  • Round cookie cutter

  • Bowl small enough to raise edges of the trinket dish

  • Small flowers or annual bluegrass foraged from outdoors

Steps:

1. Roll your air-dry clay into a ball and roll it out with your rolling pin. It’s important to note that the thicker you roll out the clay, the longer it will take to dry. Roll it out to about a quarter of an inch so that it drys well and is thick enough that it won’t break.

2: Once flat select a few nature items and arrange them onto your clay.

3. Roll your grass into your clay to make an imprint.

4. Carefully peel off your foliage.

5. Using a cookie cutter, place it carefully over your imprint to make sure your imprint is in the middle of your cookie cutter and press down.

6. Pop-out your air-dry ‘cookie’ and place it in a bowl to dry. The bowl helps give it the bowl-like shape. (Take care not to get your fingerprints in your new creation.)

7. Leave your trinket dish in the bowl for 24 hours to dry.

8. Take out your trinket dish and flip it over to dry the underside for a few hours.

9. Fill your trinket dish with precious little things.
